European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week runs from 22/01 to 28/01/2018

Serbia actively participates in the marking the Cervical Cancer Prevention Week for the twelfth time, in order to raise awareness of women about the importance of preventing this disease. Cervical cancer is a malignant disease that can be prevented. This year, marking Prevention Week goes under the slogan “Day of Health”. It is necessary to encourage women to take one day out a year for them and do all the necessary check-ups that are available in medical institutions, in order to prevent cervical cancer.

Serbia is the fourth in Europe, after Romania, Lithuania and Bulgaria, according to the number of patients suffering from cervical cancer. Unfortunately, our country is the second in Europe, right after Romania, according to cervical cancer death rate. According to data from Cancer Registry of Institute “Batut”, every year an average of 1,244 newly diagnosed women with cervical cancer is registered. The average standardized incidence rate (of the population of Europe) amounted to 28.4 per 100,000 women. In Serbia every year, on average, 482 women lose their lives because of this disease.
